On Friday, the chief executive of the new portal, Nick Christian, sent out communication to all member networks to formalise the portal’s name.
Titled Squiiz, the statement said it “is a perfect fit for our new 100 per cent industry-owned listing portal and app to ensure we are at the forefront of the mobile technology boom”.
“Our marketing and creative team has done an outstanding job developing a best-in-class brand communication and launch strategy around Squiiz, and we are excited about the prospects of what we can do with such a unique brand,” it added.
Launch meetings for each state will commence on the September 11 and Squiiz has said its member base incorporates in excess of 60 per cent of the market.
In addition to the founding groups, which include LJ Hooker, REMAX, Century 21, Ray White, Harcourts, Raine & Horne, PRD Nationwide and Belle Property, they have recently seen a large number of independents join via IRENE (Independent Real Estate Network).
Squiiz also confirmed agreements with The Professionals, First National and Place, and it is “continuing discussions with many more”.
Speaking exclusively to Real Estate Business, Mr Christian said what will differentiate Squiiz from portal giants REA Group and Domain will be its app, which will be released at the launch meetings in September.
“We have been working on this [portal] for some time; the groups have been talking about this amongst each other for years,” he said.
“Our number one motivation is to get everybody talking and supporting each other, brand competition aside, and have some level of control over our data.
“It hasn’t been a knee-jerk reaction from the recent third-party increases; we have been working on this for quite some time.”
