FRIDAY FUNNIES: Holiday homes for the Hobbit lover

If your one true wish is to live in ‘Middle Earth’, this offering of houses could make your dream a reality.

With the last Hobbit movie instalment hitting screens late last year, many are mourning the end of an epic fantasy saga. For those wanting to prolong the adventure, American holiday home portal HomeAway currently lists numerous Hobbit-like houses available for rent.

One Hobbit-style holiday cottage in north-west Montana, at Thompson Falls, is surrounded by a Hobbit village which is lit up at night. The theme runs throughout the property and on arrival, each guest receives a “Trollhouse” cookie.

The cottage, which has a king bedroom and a very small “hobbit guest bedroom’’, is available for rent from $295 a night.

Another is partially buried into the hillside at the Côte d’Azur in Provence, France.

It was modelled to replicate Bilbo Baggins’ home in the Shire. The home has a fireplace and sleeps five “normal” sized visitors.
