Friday Funnies: Ski in, zip line out

The design of a Norwegian penthouse capitalises on the country’s favourite sport … with one unusual mod-con.

Perched 60 metres above ski fields near Oslo, this peculiar apartment sits at the top of a ski jump (see below).

The penthouse was advertised for use on Airbnb, with tenants warned not to apply if they are scared of heights.

“Set at the top of the ski jump where champions prepare for flight, the apartment’s floor-to-ceiling windows give you one of the best views imaginable of Oslo, snow-capped mountains and endless forest,” the listing says.

“On the first floor, 250 steps below the apartment you will find the world’s first ski museum. Discover more than 4,000 years of ski history and learn about the adventures of polar explorers, including Roald Amundsen.”

Another plus is that 1,500 kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks are right on this apartment’s doorstep.

A lift is available to reach the apartment, but an alternative exit for risk-takers is a zip-line straight into the snow.
