Even the best agents need a mentor

Why would an agent who writes over $2 million in gross commissions still need a mentor?

BresicWhitney’s director Ivan Bresic says mentors are important regardless of the stage of your career, and they can be found anywhere.

“I love mentoring. Ive had it since I was 17-18 years old,” Mr Bresic said at AREC 2016.

He told the agents gathered how he reached $2 million in GCI. He said this is easy to achieve once you’ve made it past the first million, but many agents fail to hit one million.

“You will not climb that million-dollar mountain unless you have good mentors. In fact, you need Sherpas and you need people who have climbed that mountain before, because otherwise, you will not climb it,” Mr Bresic said.

Mentors do not need to be the traditional older figure. Mr Bresic said he is willing to be mentored by younger agents if they possess skills he lacks.

“They’re younger than me, but theyre kind of like mentors because they do things better than I did five or 10 years ago...” he said.

Mr Bresic added that BresicWhitney has its own mentoring program, which was implemented because of the importance the agency places on supporting and training younger or less experienced agents.

“Mentors are really, really important ... every single person, no matter what stage youre at, you have mentors,” he said.

Mr Bresic said the worst thing he sees in the industry is agents who don’t have the proper support and training, and who are forced to quit after failing to succeed.

“You cant climb that mountain on your own. In fact, you might get halfway up and then doubt yourself, turn back and leave this wonderful industry. Its sad,” he said.

“I see so many people, if they just stay with it, they would have climbed that mountain.”
