Long history of family ties at Raine & Horne continues today

Running a real estate business is increasingly becoming a family affair at the Raine & Horne network, with around 15 per cent of the group’s global office network now falling into the family-owned and operated space.

Raine & Horne itself, now celebrating its 135th year, is led by fourth-generation executive chairman Angus Raine.

Mr Raine says that this longevity in the brand is not uncommon.

“Some of our long-established offices are family businesses that are now led by second-generation principals, which is very satisfying for me as some of these offices have been with us for over three decades,” Mr Raine said.

“This passing of the baton not only guarantees business continuity, but means these offices are led by principals who are fully immersed in every aspect of the real estate industry and are well known within their local communities.”

Mr Raine worked outside of Raine & Horne between 1984 and 1996.

He said that it was valuable time away.

“I immediately realised the value of having a fresh set of eyes to review the workings of the business,” Mr Raine recalled.

“If you’re naturally suited to a career in real estate, it’s best to play the long game and get some runs on the board elsewhere before taking the leap.”

John Henry is a rising star in the Raine & Horne Commercial network. He is the son of Colin Henry, managing director of Raine & Horne Commercial Penrith.

John Henry is currently employed as a sales and leasing executive by Raine & Horne Macarthur, which is led by Daniel Krobot.

“John finished his Bachelor of Business at the University of Technology in Sydney in 2016, and I was going to bring him into Raine & Horne Commercial Penrith until Angus Raine told me about how he started his career outside Raine & Horne,” Colin Henry said.

“He’s now earning his leasing and sales stripes under Daniel’s guidance, and this experience will set him up for when he takes the decision to join the family business.”
