We’re very quickly barrelling towards the close of 2016. It’s time to get real. Have you achieved what you set out to achieve at the beginning of the year?
There is often an excuse or a complaint, whether in our personal or professional lives. We wish we had, wish we were, we could do, could be or could change. We tell ourselves why it can’t happen, how long it would take and why we can’t change, perhaps blaming it on other people and external factors. However, this is what keeps us from moving forward.
The word ‘can’t’ should not exist in your vocabulary. There is always a way. Sometimes we just need to look further and step outside our comfort zone. We need to find a way to make things work. Part of this process includes taking an honest look at ourselves.
The key to embark on change starts with being honest with yourself. It’s important you take an honest look at where you are, where you want to be and what you need to do to get there.
Let’s start by being honest with ourselves. 2016 will be over before we know it and it’s time to ask yourself, ‘Am I on track to achieve what I wanted this year? Have my goals diminished and been placed in the too hard basket? Have I been trying hard but am still not reaching my goals?’ Be brutally honest with yourself. You’re not fooling anyone except you.
The truth can often be a little uncomfortable but it’s important to be honest with yourself. In doing so, you ensure you are constantly moving towards your goals. As this week wraps up, ask yourself honestly, did you achieve what you wanted to achieve this week?
If you have, congratulate yourself, and plan for bigger and better things next week. If not, that’s okay, but it’s time to take a moment to ask yourself, “Why not?”. Instead saying you ‘can’t’ and blaming external factors, change your mindset and find what you can do to achieve your goals. You may just be surprised at what you can achieve.
