High performers are the best at what they do.

They were able to reach that high level by always pushing themselves to become better. They do this by perfecting their craft and learning new ones to perfect. To them, being able to learn new skills is a reward in itself. The desire to be always on top of their game is what makes them stand above the rest.

There are no limits for these individuals. They don’t know the meaning of the word “limit”. To them, limitations are just challenges that they have to conquer and have fun doing it. It is this mindset that makes them special. Being bored is their greatest enemy. With these elite individuals working for you, how do you keep on motivating them? How do you keep pushing them to become even better?

Collaborate to build trust and have fun

High performers know that they are not perfect. They do not know everything. That is why they have this insatiable thirst for knowledge. Let them work with other high performers. Mix the teams up. By doing so, they will benefit from each other’s knowledge and skills and learn new things along the way. Collaboration like this one will build trust and motivate them to make the right decisions knowing that their teammates have their back. Working with like-minded people but with different skill sets will also be fun. It’s the joy of discovering new skills that will help them advance their career is what will keep them motivated.

Give them new challenges

Succeeding at everything that they do can get old really fast. Yes, the joy of succeeding will still be there, but that emotion will be fleeting. In short, it can be boring. Bored employees tend to look for other opportunities in other companies. This is especially bad if the bored employee is one of your high performers. Guess where they will be looking for new opportunities. Your competitors. Give your high performers new challenges. They might fail, but it will just fuel their desire to become better. It benefits them and your company.

Clear career paths

High performers need room to grow. If there is no room for growth, it means that there is no room for improvement. This can lead to boredom and, again, will lead them to look for new opportunities in other companies. Make sure that your company has a clear career path for all employees. This will not only boost the motivation levels of your elite employees but to all of your staff.
