Every Friday we feature a story from an agent on the ground. This week’s story comes from Jason Lumsden, principal at Loddon Real Estate.
As I walked into the office the other morning my property manager, Kath, was on the phone, saying “Oh, he’s just coming into the office now. I’ll put him on”. Then, looking a little nonplussed, she turned to me and said, “She hung up.”
So I went into my office and started my morning routine, when the phone rang again. Kath answered it and put it through to me saying it was the same woman. The short conversation that ensued was… well it was this:
“Hello, Jason speaking,” I said.
A tiny woman’s voice with a strong, possibly Japanese accent, said, “Hello? I, I want to sell my house. You buy?”
“I’m sorry?” I said, a bit confused. “No, I won’t buy your house, but I can help you to sell it.”
By this time Kath had come in to make her morning coffee and I gave her a quizzical look, trying to convey my consternation over the phone call. But she just looked at me and went about making her coffee.
“My husband die. I need to sell house,” the caller replied.
“Ok,” I said, feeling things were getting on track. “I can help you there. Where is your house?” I asked, wanting to check that it was in our sales area.
“Ummm ….. ahhhhh… I, I go look at sign,” She said. Then she hung up.
I put down the phone and turned to Kath.
“She hung up again!” I said, feeling completely baffled. “That was weird.”
Kath turned to me and said, “April fool!”
It turns out the mystery caller was Kath’s mum. They’d cooked it up the day before to get the day off to a funny start. I just cracked up.
