Bizarre items have been left behind by tenants, including a toupee, drugs, sex toys, a Range Rover, a complete window, fake Greek statues, skis and more, according to leading international lettings agent Benham & Reeves.
Departing tenants have left behind some strange items, said the London-based top international lettings agent, as reported by OPP Connect.
Items left behind by UK and foreign tenants include a complete window, fake Greek statues, skis, a treadmill, an American-style fridge-freezer and other vehicles, said Benham & Reeves, which has offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Singapore.
For tenants who are overseas, getting the lost items back to them can be difficult, explained lettings director Marc von Grundherr.
“Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something comes along to surprise you. The Range Rover wasn’t even the only vehicle we’ve had left behind - it was just the most expensive,” he said.
“I probably thought about keeping it for a second too long but then realised it would’ve been hard to transfer the title into the company name,” he added.
The Range Rover was left in the parking space with the keys left with the porter and when the letting agent contacted the young tenant asking him to remove the vehicle, he was told to keep it.
However, as that could have caused problems, the tenant eventually arranged for someone to pick it up.
Another letting agent was shocked to enter what was supposed to be an unfurnished flat after the tenancy ended, only to find that everything had been left behind – furnishings, paintings, designer clothes and even Swarovski crystal figurines.
The foreign tenant was already halfway around the world, so her possessions were eventually donated to charity.
The same outcome awaited the designer clothes and accessories left behind by a shopaholic.
The charity shop was delighted to receive them, especially as they were still in their original bags with the tags attached!
