Top 10 most expensive rental suburbs revealed

RP Data has highlighted the most expensive rental suburbs across the nation for houses.

Port Hedland, Pilbara, in Western Australia came in first place with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,775.

Based on the median house price and the weekly rental rate, the indicative gross rental yield for a Port Hedland house was 9.3 per cent over the year to April 2014.

The suburb of Mosman in Sydney tied second with the suburb of Newman in the Pilbara, with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,500.

The indicative gross rental yield for houses in Mosman was recorded at 3.2 per cent over the 12 months to April 2014.

The median rental rate for houses in Newman was advertised at $1,500 per week over the year to April 2014. The indicative gross rental yield for a Newman house was 9.9 per cent over the year.

Third place was captured by the suburb of South Hedland in Pilbara with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,350.

Based on the median house price and the weekly rental rate, the indicative gross rental yield for a South Hedland house was 8.8 per cent over the year.

The top four were followed by:

  • Woollahra in Sydney with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,300     
  • Baynton in Roebourne (WA) with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,200
  • Nickol in Roebourne with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,100
  • Seaforth in Manly (NSW) with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,095
  • Roseville in Ku-ring-gai (NSW) with a median weekly advertised rent: $1,050
  • Lastly, St Ives in Ku-ring-gai with a median weekly advertised rent of $1,000
