FRIDAY FUNNIES: Neighbours ‘unite in hatred of house’

An owner has applied a hideous paint job to her $29 million house in an act of petty revenge following a planning dispute.

Residents in the exclusive London suburb of Kensington were stunned when they awoke to find one of their neighbouring houses had been transformed overnight.

Rather than matching the other traditional townhouses, the three-storey property was given a circus-themed paint job, with red and white stripes covering the entire front.

According to The Telegraph in London, the makeover came after the owner, Zipporah Lisle-Mainwaring, lost out in a planning dispute.

Ms Lisle-Mainwaring had applied to have the house replaced with a five-storey property including an underground swimming pool and cinema.

However, neighbours objected to the plan, saying there would be too much disruption and the excavation work could lead to structural problems with their own homes.

Speaking to The Telegraph, neighbouring resident Saskia Moyle said the home is a “real monstrosity”.

It's sort of a cross between beach hut and circus. It was all pretty puzzling – I didn't know what to think,” she said. This whole road has basically been united in its hatred of that house.

A spokesman for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea said it was looking into the incident as a number of complaints had been lodged.

“It really seems as though there's not much that can be done about it,” he said.

We're opening an enforcement case - that literally just means we've received complaints and will look into them.
