Ever fancied living in a shopping centre? So have we. Finally, thanks to one farsighted developer, all our dreams have come true.

Ever fancied living in a shopping centre? So have we. Finally, thanks to one farsighted developer, all our dreams have come true.

America’s oldest indoor shopping centre has been converted into a community of urban “micro-lofts” in Providence, Rhode Island.

The three-storey complex dates back almost 200 years and Northeast Collaborative Architects capitalised on the rich history by turning the old structure into 48 micro-lofts.

The furnished one-bedroom units range in size from 20 to 42 square metres and feature full bathrooms, built-in beds, seating, storage, as well as fully equipped kitchens.

The cosy one-bedroom units start at $550 per month.

While the top two floors are allocated to living lofts, the bottom floor features new retail and plenty of entertainment for residents of the building.
