YouTube: The Fuhrer faces foreclosure

20 October 2015 Jay Garcia

This week’s satirical YouTube video shows that even the most powerful dictators aren't immune from housing bubble bursts.

Using footage from the 2004 German war film Downfall, the example below puts a funny spin on Hitler's final days as his inner circle warns that credit is unavailable and the bank won’t refinance his loan.

Hitler (played by Bruno Ganz) has an outburst of anger over his lost investment, which in the film is a final diatribe from the Nazi leader lamenting defeat as the Allies circle closer.

YouTube users around the world have made dozens of parodies of Hitler's outrage taken from the film, but this example best summarises the chaos of the subprime mortgage crisis of 2008.
