Danielle Antonello has always had a passion for houses and construction, and she would continue working in the industry even if money were no object.

When did you first join the PM industry?

2011.

Why did you join the PM industry?

I have always had a fascination with houses and their construction, layout and design.

What were you doing before PM?

Managing a family-owned hair salon.

What would you like your next career step to be?

Team leader.

What piece of technology do you find the most useful for your business and why?

Maintenance Manager: a program that holds all information in relation to each maintenance item, like emails and invoices. You never forget where you’re at.

What area of PM needs more training focused on it and why?

Conflict resolution and how to manage a highly stressful job, since some days you can see people become overwhelmed.

What skills does a PM/BDM need to be successful?

Great communication skills and a good memory, along with the ability to keep calm under pressure.

Where do you believe a PM’s responsibilities should start and end?

That’s a hard question as there isn’t a true line in the sand – each owner expects something different from you.

How do you deal with disgruntled and aggressive tenants?

Keep calm, let them vent a little and then speak in a friendly but firm way and address the issue. Stick to the facts.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in the PM industry?

If I was a multimillionaire, I would have an investment development company where I would build and design investment properties.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Typing a great entry condition report so I know if there are any issues, I won’t have missed a thing and can enforce repairs more easily.

What are the most stressful aspects of your job?

When people expect a property to be new with no faults and it’s 20 or 30 years old.

How do you relax after a stressful day at work?

Go for a ride or skate around Birtinya Island with my dog.

How would you describe a perfect property management day?

A perfect vacate with no issues, invoices coming in for approval, positive emails saying ‘thank you’ and bonds being finalised.
