Real estate has been in a flux of change, as talk about the future of the industry has been a hot topic, but one real estate boss believes the conversation is heading in the wrong direction.
In a recent episode of Secrets of the Top 100 Agents podcast, UrbanX boss Dan Argent has revealed how he believes the industry has been distracted by what should be focused on to shape the future of real estate.
“I actually think everyone’s talking about disrupting it the wrong way because they’re talking about everything other than the agents,” he told host Phil Tarrant.
“Everyone seems to be talking about disrupting it through technology, which is connecting buyers and sellers directly without us. And I don’t think anyone wins out of that because buyers and sellers really don’t want to deal with each other.
“Buyers need guidance; sellers absolutely need guidance and advice.”
Instead of focusing on the role technology will play in real estate, Mr Argent thinks there needs to be a better focus on people so agents can provide a better service and get better results.
“I think that’s the opportunity for the top 100, the top 1,000, the top 10,000 agents in Australia; it actually gets up our level of service and that’s how we’re going to really change the face of the industry.”
This is an approach he has taken within his own company, where he helps agents provide better service.
One of the ways he has achieved this is by empowering his agents to work for themselves and not having to be based at a real estate office anymore.
As a result, Mr Argent believes that what makes a leading agent is not just focusing on providing a service, but creating the desired experience for clients.
“We are nothing to do with real estate,” Mr Argent said. “Real estate just happens to be what we transact.
“But anyone who’s in the top 100 provides brilliant service, and that’s why they’re in the top 100.”
