Victoria agents ‘well drilled and ready’ for stage 3 lockdown

Metropolitan Melbourne real estate agents are well prepared for a move back into stage 3 restrictions, the REIV has flagged.

President Leah Calnan said real estate agencies across Melbourne and Mitchell Shire “will continue to service the community, with online inspections returning along with online auctions”.

Elsewhere in the state, open for inspections and auctions will continue with the 20-person limit and social distancing measures in place.

Ms Calnan said: “Victorian real estate has always been more than willing to do anything it can to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

“The essential transaction of property and shelter will go on in a safe and controlled manner.”

She has requested all buyers, vendors and tenants to discuss the details of a return to stage 3 restrictions with agents, noting “it is important that we all work together to curb the spread”.

The president has acknowledged that the restrictions can be challenging for anyone looking to move.

“Our members are working hard to communicate with all stakeholders and ensure a smooth transition to online methods,” she said.

Noting that REIV members across Victoria stood up to the plate when stage 3 restrictions were enforced earlier this year, she added that the industry is “well drilled and ready to take on the next six weeks of restrictions”.

“Stage 3 restrictions are not ideal, but I am constantly amazed at the innovation and flexibility our industry is capable of when faced with challenges,” Ms Calnan commented.

The use of online auctions, inspections and document exchange has all allowed the real estate business to continue in these challenging times.

The REIV has iterated that it will continue to provide online training, guidance and support to the sector, and praised the continued strength of the local market.

Ms Calnan has flagged how “the forecast doom and gloom of the Victorian real estate industry by some pundits has failed to eventuate”.

“The Victorian market is doing well, with the demand strongly outstripping the supply, leading to Victorian homes holding their value,” she said.
