Cushman & Wakefield Australia has cemented its commitment to helping veterans and their families thrive by becoming an officially recognised veteran-supportive organisation.

The firm shared that it has become a pledge partner of Soldier On, a not-for-profit veteran support organisation, following a signing event held at the National Arboretum in Canberra.

By making “The Pledge”, the firm has officially taken up the mission to help veterans and their families secure their future careers, in collaboration with the Soldier On Pathways Program.

In addition to helping veterans and their families secure stable employment, Soldier On Pathways Program also offers free education support for its target beneficiaries.

During the signing event, Cushman & Wakefield’s head of project and development services in Australia and New Zealand, Mitch Wilson, said that the partnership comes following a long working history between the firm and the department.

Since 2014, Cushman & Wakefield has worked with the Department of Defence’s Security and Estate Group to provide National Program Services (NPS).

The NPS team works with Defence’s contracted Project Delivery Service and Estate Maintenance Operation Services partners to manage and deliver maintenance, refurbishment and sustainment projects on the Defence estate to support the Australian Defence Force and Defence public servants.

“Our people have worked with Defence for many years now and see the value that serving members and their families make to the nation every day — and that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off, it simply transforms,” Mr Wilson said.

He added that with the firm already having a number of veterans and partners of serving members across the business, they already have firsthand experience of the skill, insight, and dedication that they bring to the table.

“[We] look forward to engaging more ex-service people to draw on their skills and expertise to deliver for our clients,” Mr Wilson said.

In addition to taking The Pledge, Cushman & Wakefield launched its Military and Veterans Program (MVP) more than a year ago, which is an internal support group for the company’s veterans, reservists and military partner team members.

Soldier On interim chief executive Prue Slaughter, who represented the organisation during the signing event, lauded Cushman & Wakefield’s move to throw their weight behind the cause.

“As Soldier On continues to grow, we are able to expand our services such as the Pathways Program to enable more veterans and their families to thrive, by providing more opportunities of education and employment.

“By signing The Pledge, Cushman & Wakefield is not only committing to support veterans throughout the recruitment stage, but to also maintain a veteran-supportive approach to its workplace in all aspects of retention, culture, and opportunities within its teams,” Ms Slaughter said.
