Savills Australia and New Zealand has nabbed a household name in rugby circles.

Drew Mitchell is joining the hotel team at Savills Australia and New Zealand, taking on an NSW role at the firm, to be based in Sydney.

Australia’s highest try scorer in World Cup history while playing for the Wallabies, Mitchell also spent a number of years at Western Force and the NSW Waratahs before a stint at RC Toulon.

And now, he’s taken on the role of manager of hotels, with a focus on the NSW pubs sector.

Reflecting on Mitchells’ extensive life experience and strong connections both domestically and abroad, Savills’ head of hotels Leon Alaban said the addition of Mitchell to the team will provide the entire group with “an additional advantage to leverage on”.

“We are delighted to welcome Drew, with his profile and deep strength of relationships, to the team,” he commented.

He added that for a number of years, the Sydney and greater NSW pub brokerage landscape “has largely been dominated by just a few agents”.

“Drew’s appointment offers vendors and buyers another option, and an approachable and trusted operative to help meet the needs of our clients,” Alaban said.

It comes as pubs in NSW have seen a first quarter increase in activity for sale processes and transactions, according to Nick Lower, national director of hotels at Savills.

“This is anticipated to continue to increase as the year unfolds,” Lower expressed.

“Interest rates appear to have stabilised, no doubt providing some comfort to vendors, along with economist predictions that any next interest rate move will likely be downward.”

“If correct, this should respawn investment optimism and therefore allow the capital stacks keenly positioned on the sidelines to deploy funds once again into the sector,” the national director concluded.
