One UK rental agency has used a novel, and some would say refreshingly honest, approach in an attempt to offload a London flat.
Harvey Residential has been rewarded for making no attempt to glamorise a one-bedroom apartment in London, describing it in their property advert as "not very nice".
Surprisingly, it seems to have worked, with a flood of interest from prospective tenants lining up for the £997 per month unit, according to a report in the UK's The Telegraph.
The advert, which appeared on leading UK property site Zoopla, stated: “Not a very nice one-bedroom flat [sic] but like the budgie it’s cheap, open plan, well used kitchen, and if you can call it this – a small lounge.”
It added that the unit had a “large double bedroom (can’t say more than that), bathroom with a toilet and a bath.”
Oddly, reports The Telegraph, the ad also mentions that, “unfortunately, no rafters or natural beams to hang from”, with Harvey Residential insisting this flippant comment referred to somewhere to hang clothes and hammocks from rather than to be used for anything else.
Warren George, the company director, told the London Evening Standard, “It is refreshing when an estate agent tells all of the truth.
“It is quite a basic, straight-forward flat that is not very nice.
“We are a young, good-for-the-environment estate agency in the area, trying to give a refreshing honest description.”
