A resident angry with his local councillor has escaped charges for an alleged act of civil disobedience – involving wheelie bins.
Paul Slattery was charged with harassment after allegedly demonstrating against Hounslow Council’s new ‘ugly’ wheelie bins, reported the UK’s Metro newspaper.
Mr Slattery was believed to be one of several residents who voiced their unhappiness over the new bins by dragging them to council leader Steve Curran’s Greater London home and blocking his driveway.
“I was handcuffed and put in a police cell for five hours,” the 65-year-old told news website Get West London.
“It was a humorous protest by a bunch of pensioners, middle-aged people and children. To arrest someone over what happened is a massive overreaction.”
