A group of over 250 people attended the Laing+Simmons and Dexar Group’s Springboard event this month in Sydney, designed to inspire agents to higher levels of success.

Laing+Simmons managing director Leanne Pilkington said that the event is designed to encourage and empower team members.

Keynote speakers included Phil Harris, managing director at Harris Real Estate; Peter Kakos, general manager at The Agency in Victoria; Mark Cohen, chief technology officer of the Domain Group; and Cameron Nicholls, director at Nicholls & Co Estate Agents.

“This is a fantastic event that gives people the tools and resources to help them on the road to success,” she said.

“It’s very valuable for our team members to hear from those at the top of the industry, who have experienced a challenging market and who have overcome obstacles to build meaningful, successful and, ultimately, fulfilling careers in real estate.”

Laing+Simmons network growth manager Travis Wentriro said that the speakers shared their insights on the changing market and gave their opinions on the emerging trends to watch for in 2019.

“There was a particular focus on helping principals and their teams define their own unique ‘why’ — why their agency matters to their community — which in turn flowed to investigating additional concepts such as how the team defines itself at its best, the difference they make as a team, and what attracts talent to their business.

“There was also discussion around how to capitalise on the optimism of a new year amid the price decline pessimism that rounded out 2018.

“And crucially, the focus remained on the agents and their teams: how a changing market affects them, and how they cannot only survive but thrive in the current landscape.”

Mr Wentriro also said that the event is likely to grow in popularity.

“The feedback from attendees has been amazing and next year’s Springboard promises to be bigger still, especially as we continue to welcome new offices to our boutique network.”
