Ross Nesdale is a man of many careers, with real estate the latest professional challenge the former sportsman and artist has taken on.

A former rugby union player with the Irish national team, Mr Nesdale made an appearance at the 1999 Rugby World Cup. In the following years, he spent time coaching in his native New Zealand with the All Blacks, before moving on into the world of marketing and advertising.

He then spent time at the Julian Ashton Art School, which ultimately allowed him to open his own business as an artist, while also raising three kids.

But his colourful resume continues.

This year, Mr Nesdale took up an opportunity of a different kind, becoming a sales agent with Ray White Lower North Shore.

Describing his expansive professional life, the new agent said: “I guess throughout my life I’ve naturally gravitated towards things I’m passionate about, and things I was passionate about in my twenties possibly aren’t the same things I was driven towards in my late 30s, nor those things I’m passionate about now I’m 50.

“I’ve been fortunate to have had opportunities to work in each of these fields at the right stage in life.”

But despite the big career changes he has made, he sees value in what his previous jobs and experiences have taught him.

He acknowledges professional rugby as teaching him resilience, as well as the importance of preparation, competitiveness and teamwork, while painting gave him a keen eye for detail as well as an appreciation for patience and aesthetics.

From his perspective, “all of these things are highly relevant for a career in real estate”.

“I love the competition of the marketplace, I love working with the team at Ray White. I enjoy building relationships with people in my community — in particular, helping people through the selling and buying process,” he said.

“To be able to guide people through it all is very satisfying.”

While joining the network in the middle of a pandemic has been an “interesting introduction to a new industry”, Mr Nesdale said agency support has been a positive force in his latest career move.

“I’ve been on a steep learning curve, and working in a team like [Ray White Lower North Shore] helps considerably with that development process,” he said.

Looking ahead, the agent expressed his excitement over growing his network, building his business, interacting with more people and generally “becoming better at what I do”.

“I’ve had success in a few other areas of professional life and I’m looking forward to further success in this game,” Mr Nesdale concluded.
