Paul Tzamalis GFA Charity House reb

Thirty years ago, Henley’s directors dreamed of assembling a team of tradies and suppliers to build a home for auction as part of the Royal Children’s Hospital’s Good Friday Appeal (GFA).

Today, the GFA Charity House annual charity auction has raised more than $17 million to help the Victorian hospital provide care for children.

Last year’s GFA charity home auction broke records, with the house in Wollert selling for $903,000, beating the previous record of $860,000 set in 2018.

This year, a four-bedroom Henley Vogue 34 property with a 7.1 energy star rating in Villawood's flagship Redstone community in Sunbury will be auctioned by Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) member Paul Tzamalis.

The REIV awardee has been a member of the association for almost a decade.

Heeding his mum’s advice, Mr Tzamalis started his real estate journey as an apprentice at CBRE, where he was strongly encouraged by colleagues to dip his toes in auctioneering. The dip turned into a plunge as he founded The Auction Company in 2017, and fully embraced a career which, he said, provided an opportunity to “make a difference at one of the most important moments in a person’s life”.

Mr Tzamalis pointed to his uncle as his source of inspiration, taking to heart his advice to pursue something he enjoys and become the greatest at it.

“Real estate is a people business, inextricably entwined with emotions and livelihoods,” Mr Tzamalis explained.

“To be able to share in an important moment like this, where your efforts help someone fulfill a dream, is something I am truly grateful for.”

Commending Mr Tzamalis for his “desire to make a positive impact” by volunteering for the fundraising event, REIV President and career auctioneer Adam Docking said: “The opportunity to run an auction for the Royal Children’s Hospital is a privilege because of the major contribution to the community it enables.”
