The former Australian representative soccer player — who has also spent time as Perth Glory’s head coach — has traded his boots in to become the brand’s newest property specialist.

Richard Garcia, who spent a decade in England as a player, making over 230 appearances in the English professional leagues — including just shy of 50 in the Premier League — as well as 100 matches in the A-League with the likes of Sydney FC and Melbourne City (formerly Heart), has called his transition into real estate “a dream come true”.

He spent two years serving as head coach of Perth Glory in the A-League and was recently an assistant coach for Australia’s under-23 side, where he helped the side finish fourth in the tournament.

Mr Garcia, who also started in Australia’s defeat to Germany at the 2010 World Cup, possesses a deep knowledge of the local region, as well as established domestic and international connections that will reportedly assist in kicking goals in his new-found career.

A long-held keen interest in property was a motivating factor behind teaming up with The Agency Group, and the brand believes his sales potential is enhanced by his fluency in English and Spanish.

“I am at the stage of my career where I wanted to present myself with a new challenge: to bring the professionalism and desire to be the very best into a brand new field. It is going to be a real challenge but one I am looking forward to,” Mr Garcia said.

“I grew up in Perth, which was a really special time. There is nowhere better to live and that is what drew me back here after all those years abroad during my playing career.”

Garcia’s appointment is the latest move for the expanding business, which posted a revenue of $72.7 million last financial year. In addition to the news of its onboarding of the former Socceroo, The Agency has also recently made its first foray into the Tasmanian market,  as well as Mr Garcia’s hometown, Perth’s golden triangle.
