After judge Darren Palmer declared them the contestants to beat on auction day, Victorian couple Tom and Sarah-Jane have had their dreams of winning The Block further ratified by property portal Domain.

The pair recently won their first weekly room reveal after the judges deemed the Melbourne locals as having the competition’s superior guest bedroom and bathroom, with Neale Whitaker giving the duo the first 10 of the season. On top of this, the dynamic Melbourne duo also scored a perfect 30 for their kitchen.

Following their recent success, Domain has shared that the pair’s property — located at 191 McGeorge Road in Gisborne near Victoria’s picturesque Macedon Ranges — was the agency’s most viewed property online for the week.

The location is boosted not only by its tree-change appeal, but also its location to Melbourne — separated by just 45 minutes — and other services such as Tullamarine Airport, which is approximately half an hour away.

It is an accolade that bodes well for the new parents’ dreams of taking out victory at auction day, with Mr Palmer professing to Shelley Craft on The Block Official podcast that Tom and Sarah-Jane’s cohesive vision for their finished products further boosts their chances come season end.

“They have done such great rooms and they have consistently been right up there in terms of finishes and designs. They are really front-runners in this competition, as far as I am concerned,” Mr Palmer said.

The couple’s property was described as awe-inspiring by Belle Property agents Natalie Fagan and Ashlee Mckee — who are representing Tom and Sarah-Jane this year — while the agents also outlined how they have begun to field inquiries from serious buyers, despite the show not yet passing the halfway point.

“Tom and Sarah-Jane are creating something extraordinary and have connected with buyers. House one has already been declared a standout and we can’t wait to show Australia more of this spectacular country home as the weeks go on,” Ms Fagan explained.

House one will be represented by experienced auctioneer David Wood from Belle Property Albert Park on auction day, marking Mr Wood’s 12th season on the show.

The 2022 edition of the hot renovation show has bought into some of the lifestyle trends that have arisen since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic back in March 2020, predominately the tree-change shift that was accommodated by work-from-home arrangements.

As part of the program, contestants were provided 10 acres of land as well as a blank canvas country home to transform into a luxurious, desired estate. The show has also earmarked the importance of sustainability in the current season, with all houses operating off-grid, with a seven-star energy rating in addition to a 1 million litre water tank, geothermal heating and cooling, solar power and wastewater recycling.

The just released price guides for this year’s The Block houses range from $4 million to $4.4 million, far exceeding the Gisborne median house price of $1,158,000, which itself has risen nearly 30 per cent in the past 12 months.
