Two local agents are set to lead a new northern Queensland agency.

Friends and co-principals Kristy Grant and Nicole Ritchie have launched out on their own to open an office in Port Douglas, under the Professionals banner.

Having worked together as sales agents at another agency in town, Ms Grant said: “We knew we were a great team, with very different skills and strengths that complement each other, so we decided to start our own business.”

Ms Grant, who has been a resident of Port Douglas for 16 years, shared she has “a passion for real estate, renovation and North Queensland”.

Even though she only received her real estate licence in August 2022, the agent, who has a background in science research, highlighted she has “flipped 18 houses and it feels like I’ve been living on building sites for the past 20 years”.

“I have turned a passion to a career how many people are that lucky?’’

Meanwhile, Ms Ritchie has lived in Port Douglas for 20 years and has six years of experience in the industry.

Speaking on behalf of the management team, Professionals chief executive officer Katherine Gonzalez-Cork said they “will support Kristy and Nicole to achieve all their growth aspirations going forward”.

“I’m also thrilled to see the Professionals brand in Port Douglas,’’ Ms Gonzalez-Cork said.

Ms Grant acknowledged the brand as a progressive company, and stated: “We appreciate the level of support that comes with being part of the network as we establish our own office.”

While sales in Port Douglas are traditionally slower in February, the pair expects to be well-established and ready to hit the ground running with their four initial staff members when the market returns to strength in March.

“That’s when we will see investors and buyers from southern states seeking a lifestyle treechange back in the market,” Ms Grant said.

She believes there is a lot to love about Port Douglas, including “the Daintree Rainforest and spectacular reef”.

“It’s a privilege to live in such a gorgeous place.’’
