The national network has named a new leader to spearhead their “ambitious” growth aspirations.

David Edwards will take on the role of chief executive officer starting from 8 April.

With over two decades of experience in retail management across Australia and New Zealand, this appointment marks Edwards’ first venture into real estate.

Rob Westwood, chair of First National Real Estate, stated that “David is recognised for his people-first mindset, creating cultures and motivating talented people to coalesce into cohesive, highly effective teams”.

According to Westwood, Edwards has “an extensive background in cooperative and franchise-based organisations, including at companies like Myer, Mitre 10, Placemakers (New Zealand) and Forty Winks.

Westwood also stated that Edwards’ reputation for working with independent and family-owned retail businesses is “well established”.

“First National Real Estate has ambitious plans for growth and is committed to the highest standards, both operationally and in the manner that it serves its member agencies and their customers across Australia,” Westwood added.

For Edwards, the move to First National marks an exciting new chapter for both himself and for the brand.

“First National Real Estate is Australasia’s largest network of independent agents, with offices distributed throughout Australia’s capital cities, regions, New Zealand and the South Pacific,” said Edwards.

“It is my honour and privilege to have been selected to lead the network and its people into their next chapter and I am very excited about the future.”

The new CEO appointment comes hot on the heels of a number of new office openings from First National, which have started 2024 on a strong growth footing.

This year has seen First National open offices in Tin Can Bay and Toowoomba, Queensland, as well as in Nelson, New Zealand, marking the network’s 34th office on the other side of the Tasman.
