McGrath and Knight Frank have opened the doors to their first dual-branded office in Australia, which will leverage both networks’ capabilities to offer residential and commercial services in Tamworth.

After over 50 years of service under the name Burke & Smyth Real Estate Tamworth, the agency under managing director Gavin Knee, and Jason Wherritt will now operate as McGrath Knight Frank Tamworth.

The rebranding also represents the first dual-branded office to arise from Knight Frank and NZ-based Bayleys’ joint acquisition of McGrath last year.

The inaugural dual-branded office will work across both residential and commercial property, by offering expertise in sales, leasing and asset management, while also providing project marketing and home loan services.

The residential side of the business will be run under the McGrath Estate Agents banner and offer coverage in the Tamworth and Gunnedah markets.

The office’s commercial operations will be conducted under the Knight Frank brand and service both Tamworth and markets across northern NSW, such as Armidale, Inverell, Tenterfield, Moree, Narrabri and Gunnedah.

At the helm of McGrath Knight Frank Tamworth will be principal and long-term resident, Knee, who will lead a team of 20 people, while Wherritt will serve as director and sales manager of the McGrath side of the business.

Knee shared that the office rebranding would build on the legacy of the agency formerly known as Burke & Smyth, which has been operating in the Tamworth region since 1971.

“After proudly serving the region as an independent agency for over 50 years, we’re entering a new era joining McGrath for our residential services and Knight Frank for our commercial division,” he said.

The principal said that the transition to McGrath Knight Frank would enable the agency to strengthen its presence and pursue new opportunities for growth in the Tamworth market.

“This move combines our local and regional expertise and the personalised, community-driven approach we’re known for with the resources, reach, and innovation of two industry-leading networks.”

“It’s a change we’re proud of and one that allows us to offer even greater value to our clients and community,” Knee said.

Knight Frank CEO, James Patterson, said the opening of the first dual-branded office for McGrath and Knight Frank was a “very significant milestone” in the two brands’ partnership.

Patterson highlighted that the new dual-branded office under Knee was keenly positioned to leverage the future growth prospects of Tamworth and regional NSW, and drive further growth across both brands.

“Gavin is highly regarded in the local property market, and we are confident he will lead our teams to success, offering the full suite of property services to provide the best service to our clients,” Patterson said.

McGrath CEO, John McGrath, said that the agency and team under Knee were a “natural fit” to join as the first McGrath Knight Frank office.

“This is a thriving regional city with a progressive business community and a proactive council focused on population growth, industry development and commercial growth,” he said.

With the doors to the newly rebranded office now open, McGrath shared that both companies aim to bolster their regional footprints through the dual-brand arrangement.

“We believe our dual-branded offices will be a model that works well in regional areas, and we look forward to opening more,” McGrath concluded.
