Aiming to serve Melbourne’s growing number of multicultural buyers, a network has expanded in the city’s eastern suburbs by merging with another office to strengthen its reach.

Barry Plant Eastern Group has announced a merger with The One Real Estate Box Hill, effective 1 March, as the brand seeks to expand its footprint in the Whitehorse area.

The addition of the Box Hill office will strengthen the network's coverage of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, adding to the existing four offices in Mitcham, Manningham, Balwyn, and Monash.

Barry Plant Eastern Group director Spiro Drossos said the merger would allow the group to better serve its multicultural buyers by tapping into the Box Hill office’s strong connections to the Chinese and broader Asian communities in the area.

“A big part of the business is that international audience,” Drossos said.

“We are not just adding another office. We now effectively have an international arm.”

He said the Barry Plant Eastern Group offices would now be able to lean on the diverse sales experience of the Box Hill team to run campaigns dedicated to serving the Chinese community.

In addition to the Box Hill office’s international connections, Drossos said the merger provided the opportunity to collaborate again with former colleague and The One Real Estate founder Tony Kwan.

Tony Kwan will rejoin the Barry Plant team as Box Hill director and partner.

“I’ve known Tony for a very long time,” Drossos said.

“When we started discussing what joining forces could look like, it made sense quickly.”

“We’re stronger together and can offer a more complete service to Whitehorse as one team.”

Kwan said Barry Plant’s strong branding and support systems motivated his decision to merge, citing the challenges of running an independent business.

“In today's market, with the network and support available, I believe it’s the best move for myself and my team,” Kwan said.

“By joining this network, I’m stepping into a group of high-performing offices with senior agents I can collaborate with and lean on.”

“That allows me to focus on listing and selling, knowing the business is supported properly and built for long-term growth.”

Barry Plant CEO Lisa Pennell said Kwan’s return to the network demonstrated the strength of the brand’s support systems.

“It speaks to the strength of our systems in developing agents into business owners, the culture that attracts former team members back, and the strategic direction of our network.”

“Spiro is an exceptional operator and no doubt the Box Hill business will continue to go from strength to strength,” Pennell concluded.
