Place Kangaroo Point has announced the appointment of a new lead agent, with the network adding a former cricketer who is trading the baggy whites for a suit and tie in Brisbane’s real estate market.
Place has announced the appointment of former professional cricketer Ben Cutting as lead agent for its Kangaroo Point office.
In addition to his 20-year career as an international cricketer, Cutting has been involved in the real estate industry for more than a decade, having purchased his first investment property in 2009.
Cutting said that a move into real estate was always the plan, having begun the process of obtaining his licence in the late 2000’s.
“I started my real estate licence back in 2007, then finished it during COVID-19 when I had time in quarantine,” Cutting said.
Having last played professionally in 2023, Cutting said he decided to align himself with the Place Kangaroo Point office as the performance-focused environment felt familiar.
“It’s a smaller team, but they’re sharp, they work hard, and you can see the results they’re getting.”
Place Kangaroo Point director Michael Bacon said the transition into real estate was a natural fit for the former professional athlete.
“He understands performance, consistency and pressure, and how to deliver when it counts,” Bacon said.
“He has also built a strong foundation in property, which gives him a real advantage.”
Cutting said his main focus would be Brisbane’s inner east suburbs, which he knows well, having lived there for more than a decade.
Place Kangaroo Point director Simon Caulfield said Cuttings local knowledge would enhance his ability to serve the area.
“He knows the area, he understands what’s happening on the ground, and he’s been involved in property for a long time. That combination is incredibly valuable.” Caulfield said.
Cutting said he considered the career change as a new innings rather than leaving his previous life behind.
“I’m still playing a little bit here and there, but this is where my focus is now – this is full-time.”
“I haven't really had a ‘normal job’ before. It’s time for me to grow up,” Cutting laughed.
