An industry body will be on the lookout for a new leader, following the decision of its current CEO to step down after more than a decade in the role.
Master Builders Australia has announced that its CEO, Denita Wawn, will conclude her time with the organisation once a successor has been appointed.
Wawn joined the organisation in 2016 and became the first woman to hold the role of CEO since the organisation’s federation in 1890.
Master Builders said Wawn was a tireless advocate for building and construction, having played a significant role in keeping the industry active and operational during the COVID-19 pandemic by working with governments and the union.
Additionally, she led the association through several federal election campaigns, whilst advocating housing supply, affordability, women’s participation, and the industry’s role in meeting the nation’s housing and infrastructure needs.
Master Builders national president Robert Shaw said that under Wawn's leadership, the peak body had cemented itself as a prominent industry association.
“Denita has led Master Builders through some of the most significant challenges and opportunities our industry has faced, including the COVID-19 pandemic, major industrial relations reforms and the nation’s housing supply crisis.”
“She has spoken frankly and fearlessly for the industry, in public and in private, an approach welcomed by members who expect their leaders to ‘call a spade a spade’.”
The National Board has appointed a recruitment firm to lead its search for the next CEO, with the process to commence immediately.
