Industry listings portal Squiiz has held a soft launch of their website prior to releasing their ‘killer app’.

The portal currently features properties from over 3,500 agencies nationwide and is on track to upload a further 2,000 by the end of November, according to Squiiz CEO Nick Christian.

Mr Christian says the portal will be a low-cost alternative to other Australian listings yet 100 per cent industry-owned, and is the first step in taking back control of real estate listing data in Australia.

“Our priority at this stage is to go live and then settle the site in before we release the app … The app will be available in the App Store and Google Play very soon,” Mr Christian says.

“Currently, over 3,500 offices are loading into Squiiz, with a further 2,000 offices pending to upload within the next month.

“We are on target with our membership numbers, and what is particularly encouraging is the increasing level of take-up from the independents.”

Already properties from Raine & Horne, Ray White, Belle Property, PRD Nationwide and Century 21 will be listed, with the Independent Real Estate Network of Excellence (IRENE) attempting to use the portal as a means to level the playing field with the big listers.

IRENE director George Collins says their strategy for managing listings on the website will allow agents to hold a healthy control over their data and could create other opportunities for agents.

“We understand Squiiz will not gain traction for at least six months due to various circumstances, and one of those is independents feeling comfortable with having equal control,” Mr Collins says.

Squiiz has been designed to give an "equal footing" to all properties listed, drive the use of an "industry-owned" portal and retain any sales data gained through the listings process.
