The program, which comes with National Property Managers Day just around the corner, looks to develop and educate up-and-coming property managers.

According to a statement, the Property Manager Job Ready Program will act as a continuation of the entry-level registration course, providing specialised knowledge and practical skills necessary to thriving and surviving in the industry.

Antonia Mercorella, chief executive officer at the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), expressed her excitement at implementing the program at a time when assistance for industry workers was desperately needed.

“We know the demands on the profession are at an all-time high due to the mounting pressures of an incredibly tight rental market, and time-poor principals tell us they don’t have the resources to walk new property managers through the everyday practical aspects of the role,” she said.

Ms Mercorella said the serious shortage of property managers, induced by a wave of resignations within the industry, has resulted in recent graduates being appointed to replace the roles of the more experienced departures.

Additionally, she outlined that “agencies are also struggling to retain property managers, who resign early on when they could have gone on to have fulfilling property management careers if they had gotten off to the right start”.

“Property management is a job that not only relies on strong customer service, time and risk management, and communication skills, but also requires a lot of underpinning knowledge about technical processes and legislation.

“The Property Manager Job Ready Program is a comprehensive course we’ve launched to complement the minimum requirements of a registration course, and delves much deeper into the absolute fundamentals of property management,” she said.

Mr Mercorella concluded that the program would “help deliver and support the next cohort of property managers who are more confident, self-sufficient, and satisfied in their jobs”.

Launching in August, the REIQ has stated that the Property Manager Job Ready Program will be suited to those who have completed the registration or full licence course and includes a practical, two-day, face-to-face class with six-month access to a specialised online program that helps facilitate and promote ongoing development and student support.
