A real estate veteran with over four decades experience spanning property management, sales and training has been appointed to the Board of the Queensland Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA), with a new chief executive officer also taking the helm during the shake up.

Connie McKee has been appointed to the board of directors, alongside property law expert Paul Spiro and public servant Colin Cassidy.

McKee has been active in real estate for over 40 years, and most recently served as a trainer and consultant at the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) and director of her own training and advisory business.

Prior to this she served across a number of property groups across Brisbane, including REMAX Ignite.

McKee was also a founding member of the REIQ Property Management Support Service and has led education sessions across the state.

Chief executive officer of REIQ, Antonia Mercorella, welcomed the appointment, noting that it adds substantial stakeholder expertise to the board.

“Connie brings over four decades of hands-on industry experience as a practising property manager, small business owner, trainer and adviser,” Mercorella said.

“Her deep understanding of property management issues, combined with her passion for education, compliance and best practice, makes her an ideal addition to the board.

“This board refresh introduces strong and diverse voices, and we’re pleased to see the real estate profession represented through Connie’s appointment during a period of significant change in the rental sector.

“The inclusion of a practitioner who understands the on-the-ground realities of Queensland’s rental market will undoubtedly provide valuable insights to the RTA’s work.

Steve Davidson was also appointed chief executive officer amid the reshuffle, with a history spanning service delivery and business transformation.

Davidson’s roles include senior executive roles at the Australian Retirement Trust.

“We congratulate Steve Davidson on his appointment and look forward to working with him in his new role, as he leads the RTA into its next chapter,” Mercorella continued.

“The REIQ has enjoyed a longstanding, collaborative relationship with the RTA, and we are confident that will continue under this new leadership team.

“As the state’s peak body for real estate professionals, we’re committed to working constructively with stakeholders, including the RTA, to support fair, balanced and effective rental outcomes for property owners, managers and tenants.”
