Harcourts Solutions and the Harcourts Foundation have announced their second annual donation drive with Orange Sky Laundry, as the network seeks to address homelessness amid the housing crisis.
Harcourts Solutions has invited property owners in the office to donate one day's rent to Orange Sky Laundry charity, with the network then matching any donations made to support homeless people in the Brisbane area.
Director of property management at Harcourts Solutions, Jodie Stainton, said the initiative arose from witnessing the negative impacts of the housing crisis.
“Whilst it is amazing to let prospective tenants know they were successful in their chosen property, we are saying no to roughly four families for every one we helped,” Stainton said.
“Our property managers were seeing and hearing some really difficult stories which were taxing on them, and we felt we could do something to assist those at the worst end of the housing crisis.”
This will be the second year Harcourts has teamed up with Orange Sky Laundry, and after raising over $5,000 for the charity during last year's fundraiser.
This year, Harcourts decided to quadruple the fundraising effort, setting a $20,000 target.
To streamline the process, the network has also enabled donations to be integrated into property management agreements.
With a $20,000 donation, Orange Sky Laundry, which provides mobile laundry and shower services for the homeless, will be supported for two months, according to fundraising support officer Arabella Mengel.
Head of the Harcourts foundation Pauline Smith said that the fundraiser, which will run from 1 November to 17 December, would support a great cause.
“It’s a beautiful way to end the year,” Smith concluded.
