The international brokerage announced that it has launched in Melbourne, appointing a chief executive officer to head the office.

International brokerage Sotheby’s International Realty has announced its expansion into the Melbourne market, establishing a Melbourne office and appointing a real estate veteran to lead the operation.

Mitch Armstrong was appointed chief executive officer and managing director of projects, having recently served as head of sales and leasing at GURNER Group.

The office is owned by Mark Harris, Julian Brown and Rob Curtain.

The trio have been operating a Sotheby’s for six years on the Mornington Peninsula, with the recent announcement marking a formal move into the capital.

Curtain will continue to lead the Mornington Peninsula operation, while Harris and Brown, also principals of New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty, will focus on Melbourne expansion.

The announcement is the latest round of growth for Harris and Brown, having expanded their New Zealand office to 31 offices.

“I’m thrilled to be joining a brand with such an extraordinary heritage, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to bring those values and uncompromising standards to the Melbourne market - where there is genuine demand for a team that combines local experience with global reach,” Armstrong said.

The corporate head office will open in 2026 in Hawksburn village.

Brown explained that the new office will ensure the network can deliver for its client base.

“The Sotheby's International Realty network and its relationship with the Sotheby's auction house means we have a reach beyond anything previously offered in Melbourne.”

“The demand from our Australian and international clients requires a unified team, and the opportunity in Melbourne aligns with our brand's heritage and our vision for the next chapter,” Brown concluded.
