From unstable housing To $1M by 21: The young gun dominating Brisbane’s apartment market

A Place agent who grew up without stable housing has turned that experience into one of the fastest rising careers in real estate.

At just 18, Megan Alexander bought her first property without telling anyone, after working up to 30 hours a week throughout school and saving more than $60,000.

Now 24, a business partner at Place Kedron within Place Purpose Group, she had written more than $1 million in commission by 21 and built a high volume business specialising in apartments across Brisbane’s north.

 
 

“I grew up moving constantly. We didn’t have stable housing, and I just knew I wanted something different for myself,” she said.

At the time, Megan was studying a dual degree in law and business, on track for a conventional career path, until a conversation with the agent on her purchase, Robbie Lofaro, shifted her direction.

After asking what the agent earned on the sale, she quickly reassessed her future.

“I remember thinking that’s more than I’d make starting out as a lawyer.”

Megan gave herself one year in real estate with a clear benchmark: if she couldn’t make $100,000, she would return to university.

She didn’t return to her law degree. At 21, she became the youngest agent in her then-network to surpass $1 million in GCI.

In an industry often driven by the desire to secure prestige listings, Megan deliberately built her real estate business in the apartment market, where demand is consistent and transactions are more repeatable.

She said the appeal came down to the type of client and the ability to scale.

“With apartments, you’re often working with investors, so the decision making is more data-driven and less emotional,” she said.

“It means you can build momentum, work across multiple listings at once and create repeat business within the same complexes.”

That model has allowed her to focus on volume and consistency, rather than relying on one-off, high-end sales.

She focuses on unit markets across Lutwyche, Chermside and Bowen Hills, where she has built strong repeat business within the same complexes and established herself among the top-performing agents in Lutwyche and Chermside.

Place Purpose Group CEO, Robbie Lofaro, said Megan’s rise was driven by clarity and execution.

“She identified an opportunity in a part of the market many agents overlook and built a system around it,” he said.

“It’s her consistency and ability to execute at volume that has set her apart.”

Megan has since moved into business ownership, with the office rebranding to Place Kedron, shifting her focus from solely personal performance to building systems and supporting the wider team.
