With properties taking longer to sell and buyer interest weakening, Place Estate Agents has launched a major auction campaign designed to attract greater buyer attention and improve sales performance.

Place Estate Agents is turning to a mass auction campaign to counter Brisbane’s slowing property market, as selling times increase and competition for buyers intensifies.

The network has launched its Days of Summer campaign, which will see more than 200 properties go under the hammer between 28 and 31 January 2027, across four days of in-room and onsite auctions.

The campaign aims to generate greater buyer attention through coordinated marketing, as agents increasingly turn to auctions to overcome longer selling periods.

According to Place Advisory analysis, private treaty selling times doubled between 2025 and 2026, while auction selling times increased by just seven days.

The figures highlight the growing challenges facing vendors relying on traditional sales methods, with auctions potentially offering a faster alternative in a cooling market.

Place has also recorded a 35 per cent increase in sellers choosing auction campaigns this spring compared with the same period last year.

Place CEO Damian Hackett acknowledged that conditions had changed following years of strong price growth across Brisbane.

“After several years of exceptional growth, Brisbane’s market has shifted, and that’s a normal part of the property cycle,” Mr Hackett said.

“In a market like this, auction gives sellers clarity on what buyers will genuinely pay today.”

The Days of Summer campaign will concentrate auctions into a four-day period, supported by a network-wide advertising push designed to increase exposure for individual listings.

Place managing director Sarah Hackett said the approach would combine broader marketing with individual agents’ existing buyer relationships.

“Your home has its own campaign, backed by a broader promotion bringing buyers’ attention to Days of Summer,” Hackett said.

“That combines the reach of the Place network with your agent’s local buyer relationships, creating more opportunities for your property to be seen by the right people.”

Place head of auctions Paul Curtain said a defined auction date could also encourage prospective buyers to make decisions rather than prolong negotiations.

“An auction gives buyers a date to complete their inspections, arrange their finance and decide whether they are going to compete,” Curtain said.

He said auction sales could also reduce uncertainty for vendors seeking to purchase their next property.

“When a property sells under the hammer, there is no finance condition, no building and pest condition and no cooling-off period. The seller has an unconditional contract that day.

“For someone coordinating a sale with their next purchase, that means they can move forward without waiting on their buyer’s finance approval or an inspection outcome.”
