A renowned figure in the proptech space assumes the role of chief technology officer (CTO), tasked with ensuring the network becomes a major player in the industry’s technology revolution.

With technology increasingly becoming standard practice within the real estate industry, Darren McCoy, the prominent Victorian agency’s new CTO, declared Barry Plant will “be surfing the tech wave, not watching from the beach.”

Bringing significant prior experience in senior roles with other major franchises and a strong track record in developing cutting-edge technologies for the real estate industry, Mr McCoy will be responsible for spearheading the establishment of a robust technology stack for Barry Plant agents and offices.

In his role, he will also be tasked with mentoring the network’s digital taskforce to deliver interconnectivity and data mining opportunities across all technology platforms adopted by Barry Plant outfits.

Mr McCoy’s knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI), which includes the production of Rebot AI, will be invaluable to the network at a time when the software solution is growing not just in popularity but also in proficiency.

He explained, “Joining the Barry Plant leadership team at this time for me is about doing something that has real purpose.”

Speaking on Mr McCoy’s arrival, network chief operations officer, Lisa Pennell, explained that “there’s no doubt market and tech are the two biggest gripes in any franchise group.”

“Darren is not only a high-level thinker in the tech space; he also has the unique ability to connect tech with the human element and distil complicated information into easy-to-understand sound bites,” she said.

“For many years, we’ve been saying tech is not a replacement for relationships in our industry and this collaboration will allow our business to be superpowered — tech supporting great agents instead of making average agents lazy.”

Following a recent suite of executive appointments — which include Mr McCoy, Ms Pennell, and head of marketing Monika Kamienowska — Barry Plant’s chief executive officer, Mike McCarthy, believes the network boasts an industry-leading leadership team.

His sentiments were shared by Ms Pennell, who believes Barry Plant’s leadership team is “solid and capable.”

“2023 is our year of transformation and we’re all excited to unleash our roadmap in the coming months,” she concluded.
