In Sydney’s eastern beachside suburb of Maroubra Nick Papas, co-principal at Century 21 Eastern Beaches Maroubra, sold 30 properties in the last 12 months, 11 ahead of the next agent. Based on local statistics Mr Papas has 12 per cent market share of the area where there are 178 active agents, making him the top sales agent in the area. He says there are 5 simple cornerstones to his success, that are sometimes overlooked by other agents.

1. Be hardworking. Breathe property and work 7 days a week if necessary

2. Be honest and ethical, both in business and personally

3. Be present at every open home and buyer appointment

4. Have your phone on 24/7 for questions or concerns clients may have

5. Stay connected. Mr Papas has a shared database of 12,000 people.

6. Know more. Mr Papas believes that no other agent has the market knowledge he has.

Furthermore, Mr Papas says the team at Century 21 Eastern Beaches Maroubra is one of the best. In particular he says it has a good mix of youth and experience.

“I have worked in the real estate industry through the highs and lows,” Mr Papas told REB.

“Eva Johnson joined me and in her first year of real estate has already achieved many personal goals. Also, Clay Chegwidden joined our team recently and brings with him great hunger and drive force his clients.”

Mr Papas said the team makeup gives it a unique competitive advantage.

“A young team being led by an older leader allows us to connect across all generations of gen X, gen Y and gen Z.

“Gen X is now making up the majority of the working-class community in the work force for the first time ever.”

Mr Papas says the recent Century 21 rebrand has helped in attracting young talent.

He says he is looking to grow market share and the size of the team.

“We are looking to bring on new agents that are young, hungry, dynamic and disciplined. The one thing that we always looks  for in a good agent is how personable they are. You can find a good person and make them a good real estate agent, but it is very hard to find a good real estate agent and make them a good person.”
