Your company culture during the pandemic

This pandemic really did a number on us. Our personal as well as our professional lives have been drastically altered by it, writes James Short.

We are already aware of its negative impact, but on the flip side, it also made us appreciate the little things that we used to take for granted. Things like social gatherings with friends, going out to dinner and traveling.

The business side of things is no different. It has been a challenging year for both small and big businesses alike. Even giant corporations like Disney are feeling the negative effects of this pandemic. Yet despite the hardships caused by COVID-19, we should will ourselves to keep our business going. Focus and strengthen the things that you can immediately influence. Focus on your company culture.

Just because COVID-19 is making it harder for businesses to stay open does not mean that your company culture should be allowed to fall by the wayside. In fact, you should be investing in it. It is one of the keys to keeping your business healthy, as well as your employees, during this challenging period. Remember, your greatest asset is your team. The best part is, you only need to spend time and effort to strengthen and nurture it.

Build and sustain bonds

One of the biggest changes businesses have to adopt is the work-from-home model. This in itself poses another challenge. The feeling of disconnect and isolation. Although you and your team are still communicating through digital means, there is a certain feeling of disconnect compared to the traditional face-to-face interactions. To alleviate this problem, encourage your team to keep on engaging with each other. It does not have to be always about collaborating on a project. It can be as simple as sharing each other’s progress reports. This can lead to cross-training which will eventually lead to your team members growing their skill sets.

Nurture the body and mind

These are indeed stressful times and even the best of the best can succumb to it. As was mentioned before, your team is your greatest asset and it should be your number one priority that they are always on top of their game. Encourage them to take a vacation even if it’s just a staycation. How about a three-day weekend every month? A virtual meditation session is also a great idea. Anything that will allow you and your team to de-stress and recharge is fair game.
