The only thing worse than having the best house in the worst neighbourhood is having the best fridge in the worst neighbourhood.

A homeowner in the Florida town of North Naples learned that lesson the hard way on New Year’s Eve when a neighbour broke into his home, raided his fridge and then passed out.

The neighbour in question – who, for legal reasons, must be referred to as both allegedly guilty and allegedly hungry – was caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar, according to the Naples Daily News.

“Kent Carr, 48, of the 8600 block of Blue Flag Way, North Naples, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and petit theft,” the paper reported.

“The caller reported that his guest found the man, later identified as Carr, in the bed and unable to respond in a coherent manner," reports said.

Apparently, the home owner and his guest “found an egg, a stick of butter, candy and a pickle jar with a pickle lying next to it on the counter”.

The Naples Daily News added more horrific details, reporting that “a gallon of milk had been opened and left inside the refrigerator with the cap off”.

Police were unable to find the cap, according to the paper.
