One of Australia’s most successful real estate agencies has signed up a Chinese-born agent, who has already won the listing of a harbour-front home in Vaucluse, Sydney.

Bill Malouf’s LJ Hooker Double Bay recently hired agent Feng Qiu, who will help service one of the fastest growing international markets for prime real estate – Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Mr Qiu has hit the ground running with his first listing this week of 75 Kings Road, Vaucluse.

The property has views of Sydney Harbour including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, with surrounding recent sales of between $5.5 million and more than $6 million.

“When my vendors list with me they know their international buyers are negotiating directly with a licensed, Chinese-speaking agent, not a translator,” Mr Qiu said.

“You can never be sure that you get the best deal when a translator is involved in the negotiations.”

The LJ Hooker agent has managed a real estate business in China. He moved to Australia 15 years ago and admits the journey has been challenging at times.

“The language and cultural difference was very hard to cope with; there were times when I thought I would never be able to make friends and fully speak English,” Mr Qiu said.

“I really had to make an effort to connect with my new environment; I started playing rugby and rowing. Looking back at what I did, it all helped getting me to where I am today.’’

His latest listing – 75 Kings Road, Vaucluse – last sold in 2003, has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a 2-car garage. In addition to the open-plan living, the property also has separate kitchens and living areas with a separate entry option for guests.
