A Western Australian real estate agent has been left heartbroken, in what many television fans are calling a “huge mistake”.

Nikki Gogan, sales representative with Hollett & Lawrance First National in Northam, finished second in Thursday night’s finale of The Bachelor on Channel 10.

Nikki, who has been practising real estate since 2004 and is currently studying to earn her diploma and become a licensee, according to her realestate.com.au profile, was many viewers’ favourite to win the heart of this year’s bachelor, rope technician/engineer Richie Strahan.

“I did not expect to have fallen so deeply in love with him … I was completely caught by surprise. It’s crazy that after this amount of time I’ve fallen in love,” Nikki said.

Nikki was the very first woman to meet Richie on this year’s show, the first of the 25 competitors to score a single date and the first to lock lips with the bachelor (but definitely not the last).

“She’s definitely the kind of girl that gives you those butterflies in your stomach,” said Richie in Thursday night’s program.

“I feel like we’re a perfect match.”

Despite the “life-changing” experiences she offered him, Nikki was left heartbroken when Richie declared his heart lay with venue manager and single mum Alex Nation, with a simple but effective “I hope you understand, Nikki”.

Fans of the show have been quick to rally around the WA real estate agent, with the top comment on The Bachelor’s Facebook post about Alex’s win saying “It’s okay Nikki. The whole of Australia fell in love with you”, and garnering over 8,000 likes less than an hour after the show finished.

There is now a strong internet campaign for Nikki to become next year’s star of The Bachelorette, but vendors and buyers in and around Northam can hold out hope that she’ll return to the job she loves so dearly.

“I love chatting to locals and out-of-town investors while sharing my wealth of knowledge in this ever-growing and ever-changing industry,” Nikki's profile says.

“I know how lucky I am to love my job as much as I do. It's a thrill matching buyers to their dream home. Every day is different and I am privileged to meet and work for some fantastic people.”

Disclaimer: The REB editorial team thought the WA-based real estate agent had this "in the bag" and was firmly #teamNikki.
