Three senior members of one of Australia’s top real estate groups have gotten on their bikes for a good cause, travelling to New Zealand to take part in a charity ride.
Brendan Whipps, CEO of Harcourts Queensland, Andrew Friebe, CEO of Harcourts South Australia and Jason Jaeger, business development manager of Harcourts Queensland took part in the five-day Smiling for Smiddy ride from Christchurch to Queenstown in March.
Smiling for Smiddy raises funds for Mater Research, a medical research institute based in Brisbane. Team Harcourts raised $22,000 for the cause.
This is the second year Mr Whipps and Mr Friebe have taken part in a Smiling for Smiddy bike ride challenge. Both men took part in the Adelaide to Uluru in 2016.
The Harcourts team battled rain and zero-degree temperatures in their bid to raise funds for a condition that affects millions, including Mr Whipps’ family.
“It was certainly an emotionally charged week, riding with the incredible Smiddy crew,” he said.
“So many of us are blessed with healthy lives and families. However, this year, my little three-year-old nephew Hunter is courageously fighting leukaemia and while all of the riders ... are extraordinary people, the real heroes are those who are affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly.”
Smiling for Smiddy organises several riding challenges throughout the year in different locations to raise funds for cancer research.
