Five aspiring real estate stars are one step closer to making their dreams a reality after LJ Hooker announced its Million Dollar Intern finalists.

After a two-month search that attracted more than 200 entrants, who were required to submit their interest with a video, the competition is now down to just five finalists.

LJ Hooker launched the search for the ‘best job in real estate’ in March. The 16 semi-finalists have been cut to a final five.

They are competing for an all-expense paid three-month internship with one of LJ Hooker’s top agents, Double Bay’s Bill Malouf.

Mr Malouf changed the rules at the last minute when he decided he wanted to meet five of the budding interns, instead of three as originally planned.

“I couldn’t choose just three from our final 16. The quality was too high to say yes or no without meeting them. You learn a lot about a person when you shake their hand and make eye contact,” he said.

“These interns have shown they exude confidence, present succinctly and, in theory, have what it takes to make it in real estate.”

The final five are:

  • Johnny Humphrey, Double Bay, NSW (37)
  • Adam Bennett, Cairns, Queensland (31)
  • Lyra Hadiak-Bob, Horsham, Victoria (19)
  • Sophie Hulse, Greenwich, NSW (21)
  • Tahnee Barnes, Canberra, ACT (28)

In addition to the three-month internship, the intern will also get accommodation, a car and a new business wardrobe.

The Million Dollar Intern position was open to Australian citizens aged 18 and over who have worked in real estate for less than 24 months or not at all. Entrants were judged on a number of metrics, including a video, behavioural testing and several phone interviews.

The final five will attend a panel interview with Mr Malouf and key LJ Hooker corporate staff.

The winner will be announced on social media on 31 May.
