Imitation in your business is the best form of flattery according to one leading Queensland property management director.
As the leader in property management in the Toowoomba, Queensland area Ian Knight, director of RE/MAX Success, knows his competitors look to his office and often imitate their ideas, but rather than get upset about it he sees it as a form of flattery.
“From a property management perspective, we are the industry leader and others copy us,” he told Residential Property Manager.
“Sometimes we get disappointed that others directly copy our material and intellectual property however we are reminded that this is a form of flattery.
“We are not complacent and are always looking at ways to improve business and systems.”
RE/MAX Success, based in the large regional city of Toowoomba, has won many property management awards, including their director of property management, Katie Knight being a finalist in the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) Residential Property Manager of the Year awards for the last six years. Winning the title on three occasions in 2008, 2010 and 2012. She is also the current Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) Residential Property Manager of the Year 2012.
But Mr Knight is the first to admit he watches what his competitors are doing in the sales department.
“It is important to always be aware of what your competitors are doing,” he said.
“We always monitor our competitors in the sales arena. If we fail to win business, we want to know why so we survey those people who do not select our office to sell their property so that we can ascertain what is required to be more successful.”
