Tenants in Queensland will continue to have access to advice, information and advocacy for another six months, after the federal government pledged funding to the Tenant Advice and Advocacy Service (TAAS).
The previously self-funded organisation has faced uncertainly over its continuation in the past year, after the state government cut its funding last October and redirected it to the Department of Housing.
While the federal government’s funding has saved the centre, it has come too last minute as it had already gone into shut down mode and lost its full-time tenant advice officer.
Gympie's tenant advice officer, Karel Moss, has taken up a part-time role to keep the service open to residents in the Gympie region.
However, the future of the centre after December has yet to be determined.
Ms Moss told the Gympie Times while the Residential Tenancies Authority could provide tenants with basic information on acts and laws, TAAS could provide further assistance in the form of vital tenant advocacy, advice and in-depth information.
