A one-office country agency has recently launched an iPhone application exclusively for tenants.

Bathurst Real Estate has become one of the first real estate agents in Australia to use Smartphone technology to help renters.

Stacey Whittaker, principal at Bathurst, told Residential Property Manager the application was designed to make life easier for the company's tenants.

“The application is a sign of the times, where technology is meant to make life easier,” she said.

“I don’t know of anyone else who has an application for their tenants - definitely not around our area.”

The company-branded application can be used by tenants to submit forms, request maintenance, search properties to buy or rent, set reminders for rental payments and even connect with the office on social media.

Ms Whittaker said the app has been well received by tenants and landlords.

“We’ve had great feedback for tenants, they love it,” she said.

“You always have your phone on you, so you have all the information that they could need. If, for example, they were locked out or needed a locksmith, it's all in the app.

“Plus, whereever they go they have our information. It is just the convenience factor they like.”

Bathurst Real Estate was ranked 23rd in Real Estate Business’ Top 50 Sales Offices ranking and according to Ms Whittaker, a similar company-branded app is in the early stages of construction for the sales side of the business.

“It is only a matter of time until we roll out an app out for the sales side. It is early days but definitely in the pipeline,” she said.

“We wanted to do a tenant app first because it was something new and it took the focus off our sales team. Often property management is treated like the underdog, but this shows we really are focused on both sides of the business.”
