Many property managers have an assumption that longevity will qualify them for a promotion to a department head, says one property management recruitment consultant.
Clare Verrall from Melbourne-based Design & Build said the issue was that many property managers had not been doing additional training to further their skills during their career.
“They may be a wonderful property manager but it doesn’t mean they’ll be able to lead a team well so that’s something a lot of them don’t understand,” she said.
Ms Verrall will speak on the topic of career progression and what property managers can do to reach their specific goals at the Wealth Conference on the Gold Coast in November.
“I’m hoping people will realise that property management is a serious career. It’s not something you can bumble your way through,” she said.
“If this is something you want to be your future you have got to focus on training and continue to better yourself.
“No matter how long you have been doing it for you can always learn more and you can always be better and not becoming complacent.
Ms Verrall joins a host of high profile speakers lined up to speak at the Wealth Conference and includes: managing director of BMT Tax Depreciation Quantity Surveyors Bradley Beer; real estate trainer Mark McLeod; director of Project One Pip de Rohan; and international speaker Matina Jewell.
Speaking on the theme of the conference, CEO of Apmasphere, the organisers of the event, Ben White said: “Limitless is focusing on how some of the changes that are happening in this industry create almost uncapped for people both in their career as well as an ability to grow their rent roll.
